I returned to New York City for the first time in over 10 years at the end of January. It wasn’t just any visit, I went there to exhibit my photography. I displayed photos from my 4 year round-the-world trip to 28 countries (March  2015-2019). It was to share my experience, the photos and stories behind them and my journey with others.

I had the pleasure of reconnecting with many friends that I hadn’t seen in many years. Some I hadn’t seen in over 20 years, like my favorite teacher and coach from grade school (Mr. Clancy)! I also had the chance to meet many of my friends’ partners and children and catch up with many of my friends from school, university, work and life. I was also honored that ambassadors, consuls, and dignitaries from the United Nations even came to the exhibit!

It was a beautiful sensation to be back in New York. Despite having lived so many years there, I felt disconnected from the city. Last time I was there, around 2009 it felt a little cold and distant. But this time I was delighted that the feeling was different. I felt a romance with the city and the city reminded me how beautiful and special it is. And as is usually the case, my friends there make the difference. It reminded me that it is one of my homes around the world.

This was my second photography exhibit and since I am still learning the ropes I was lucky to have my sister, Marta, help me in every part of the exhibit. She is an artist, designer and superwoman so that was a life-saver. I am also happy to say that thanks to your purchases and support I was also able to raise funds for an NGO I contribute to here in Colombia that does beautiful work, Tiempo de Juego.

Thank you for being a part of it

My visit to New York and my photo exhibit was extremely special for me. New York is the city that I grew up in, and to return as an artist with my own photography exhibit was a dream come true! And to have both my friends, and complete strangers who walked in to the exhibit from the street connect with my photos and journey was the icing on the cake.

In typical me style, the trip was supposed 2 weeks and it lasted 2 months. I was lucky enough to witness winter turn to spring in a city that is very special to me. The exhibit was supposed to be a one-night show, and thanks to the generosity of my friend Terrence from Icon Realty Management it lasted over a month and had to be cut short due to the crazy COVID`19 outbreak. But what a beautiful experience it was, while it lasted!

Now I look forward to continuing to explore this beautiful planet of ours and sharing the experience with you and others . All while while making a positive along the way and inspiring people to chase after their dreams.
I’ll leave you with these words:

The world is big, and life is short.

Special thank you to the sponsors of the exhibit and my stay in New York:
